MAN SHOT BY INTRUDER

{LEAD} A 24-year-old man was shot in the chest Tuesday morning after being confronted by a would-be robber in his home in the 1500 block of Colonial Avenue.

The victim, Richard Granados, was listed in stable condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

{REST} Police spokesman Larry Hill said the shooting occurred at 9:30 a.m., after Granados returned home from a laundry.

Granados went into a back room to put down a basket of clean clothes. When he returned to the living room, he encountered a man with a gun standing in the doorway, Hill said.

After Granados told the suspect he had no cash, the suspect searched the house. Finding no money, he shot Granados in the chest and fled.

Police are searching for a black man with short hair in his mid-to-late 20s. The suspect is about six feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. He was wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans.
