BOY, 12, KILLED WHEN TRUCK RUNS OVER HIS BIKE

{LEAD} A 12-year-old boy riding his bicycle in the first few hours of summer vacation was killed Friday when a rented truck ran over him.

Police spokesman Mike Carey said the accident happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of Holland Road, just west of Rosemont Road.

{REST} Brandon L. Cohee, who lived in the 3400 block of Woodburne Drive, was riding his bike on a sidewalk when a Ryder rental truck driven by Stefan D. Krieg, 24, drove over him.

Carey said the driver apparently didn't see the boy. Brandon was riding east on the sidewalk, and the driver may have been looking west at the oncoming traffic, police said.

Brandon was taken to the Trauma Center of Virginia Beach General Hospital, where he died in surgery, Carey said.

Krieg, of the 900 block of Bethel Road in Chesapeake, was preparing to pull onto Holland Road from The Muffler Center when Brandon rode his bicycle in front of the truck, Carey said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, Carey said.

Carey said the officer investigating the accident is deciding whether charges will be filed.
