NEW FEES AT SILVER LAKE

{LEAD} Cape Hatteras National Seashore Superintendent Thomas L. Hartman has announced a new fee schedule for the National Park Service Marina Facility at Silver Lake on Ocracoke Island.

The new fee schedule per night now is 60 cents a foot for vessels using shore-based electricity and 50 cents a foot without shore-based electricity.

{REST} ``The new fees are due to recent changes at the policy level in Washington,'' said Hartman. ``The downsizing of the federal government requires the National Park Service to look at specific user groups supporting facilities they use over and above the general public. Additionally, the previous one dollar fee created unfair governmental competition, undercutting the private marina industry on Ocracoke Island.''
