CHARLES R. WEST

{LEAD} Charles Roland West, 91, of Norfolk, died June 18, 1994, at home.

He was the husband of the late Florence Whitehead West and is survived by his wife, Venell Dilday West. Also surviving are four children. Two sons, Roland West of Norfolk and Herbert West of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Lula West Bates of Norfolk and Telka West Carroll of Tiffin, Ohio; two stepchildren, Tommy Dilday of Ahoskie, N.C., and Betty J. Dilday Byrd of Norfolk; three brothers, Joe West of Akron, Ohio, and Murrell West of Barberton, Ohio, and Gary West of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Elva W. Flowers and Mary Jane W. Gaskill of Akron, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

{REST} He was employed by the city of Norfolk for 40 years, retiring in 1970 from the Sanitation and Street Cleaning Department. He was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 1994, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Fred Braswell. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on June 20, 1994 from 7 to 9 p.m.
