BEACH MAN BADLY BURNED IN HOME EXPLOSION DIES

{LEAD} The Virginia Beach man who was burned over 90 percent of his body when an explosion ripped through his home early Friday morning died Sunday evening, according to a spokeswoman for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Kevin Fitzpatrick, 32, of the 1000 block of Old Dam Neck Road, was flown by helicopter to the hospital's burn trauma unit about 12:30 a.m. Friday with third-degree burns over almost his entire body.

{REST} He died shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick's roommate, who was also at home at the time of the explosion, was uninjured during the incident.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blast.
