VIRGINIA POWER REACTS TO SCC INQUIRY
{LEAD}
During a special meeting Monday, the board of directors of Virginia Power
endorsed the electric utility's management and appointed a five-member
committee to deal with an unusual order from the State Corporation Commission.
The SCC on Friday told Virginia Power and its parent, Richmond-based Dominion
Resources Inc., to provide documents and answer questions about their
organizational ties. The commission expressed concern that Dominion Resources'
board might have compromised the independence of Virginia Power by asserting
control over the utility's management. The new committee of Virginia Power
directors will be chaired by William G. Thomas, an Alexandria attorney.
