NO RE-ELECTION

{LEAD} It is truly refreshing to witness the extent of political knowledge that some college students possess today. Heather Allen's recent letter (June 12), for example, criticizes Gov. George Allen's commencement address at the University of Virginia last month as a selfish attempt to campaign for re-election. She blasts our governor for abusing ``the privilege to address his alma mater on graduation day.''

Ms. Allen appears to have missed one very important point: One cannot be re-elected to an office that has a one-term limit! Oddly enough, this is exactly the case with the office of governor in the commonwealth of Virginia.

{REST} Thomas Jefferson would be proud to know that a student at his university has such a grasp of Virginia political policy. Criticism rings very hollow when one fails to include the trivial details - like facts.
