JAMES T. ARTIS SR.

{LEAD} James Thomas Artis Sr., 64, of the 400 block of Carolina Road, died June 20, 1994, in Obici Hospital.

Mr. Artis was a native of Isle of Wight County and the son of the late June Artis and Mamie Jones Artis. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Suffolk.

{REST} Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mable Artis; three daughters, Mildred V. Artis, Vivian M. Jones and Amie S. Artis, and one foster daughter, Barbara J. Knight, all of Suffolk; eight sons, Raymond V. Copeland, James Artis Jr., Cary R. Artis, Tobbie S. Artis, Steve Artis, Leon G. Artis and Deon T. Artis, all of Suffolk, and Eric Artis of Trenton, N.J.; a sister, Mary Lee Boone of Suffolk; mother-in-law, Mae E. Knight; eight brothers-in-law; nine sisters-in-law; one son-in-law; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Piney Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. David Williams. Burial will be in Piney Grove Church Cemetery. The family will be at Crocker Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday (wake). The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
