JOHNNIE ALEXANDER

{LEAD} Johnnie Alexander, of the 1800 block of Blair Ave., a shortshoreman and former union president, died June 18, 1994, peacefully at his residence.

Mr. Alexander was born in Scotland Neck, N.C., and was the son of the late Zettie and Ella Alexander. He was employed with International Longshoremans Association. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a former president of Local 1819 AFL-CIO for six years and also a member of Local 1458 Shortshoremans Union.

{REST} Survivors include his wife, Frances F. Alexander of the home; three daughters, Donna M. Graves, Vera Y. Jackson and Phyllis A. Linzy; five sons, Kirk Jones, Jerome Jones, Tony Perkins, Lyn Perkins, AO2 and Leon A. Jackson; two sisters, Geraldine Jackson and Mary Metz; six brothers, McClennan Williams, Stanfield Bedford, Edward Bedford, Reginald Bedford, Earl Bedford and Theodore Bedford; 14 grandchildren; a mother-in-law, Katherine L. Dickens; two aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Cook. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. A Christian wake service will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in Riddick Funeral Service.
