KENNETH R. GAVIN

{LEAD} Kenneth Ray Gavin, beloved husband and father, 62, of the 5200 block of Amherst Drive, a retired conductor, died June 21, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.

He was a native of Warsaw, N.C., and a member of Bowers Hill Baptist Church, Chesapeake. He retired from Norfolk & Southern Corp. after 40 years and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

{REST} Survivors include his wife, Helen M. Gavin; three sons and their wives, Douglas Ray and Beverly Gavin of Virginia Beach, Gregory Carlton and Beth Gavin of Suffolk, and Kyle Richard and Julie Gavin of Portsmouth; his mother, Eva Mae Morgan Gavin of Portsmouth; five sisters, Cleo Williams of Cincinnati, Ohio, Louise Barnes of Prince George County, Va., Juanita Clarke of Columbia, S.C., Nan Smith of Riverhead, N.Y., and Diane Simonowich of Greenville, N.C.; five brothers, William Gavin of Farmington, W.Va., Wilbor Gavin of Whaleyville, Va., J.C. Gavin of Hopewell, Va., Richard Gavin of Maiden, N.C., and Milo Gavin of Portsmouth; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Ron Workman. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
