BAR REPRIMANDS LAWYER

{LEAD} The Virginia State Bar has issued a public reprimand against lawyer Archer Lee Jones II for two cases of unprofessional conduct.

In one case, Jones was hired in 1992 to handle a land negotiation. He was paid a $500 retainer but did not file a bill of complaint, even though he told his clients he had. He later apologized and returned their money.

{REST} In the second case, Jones was hired in 1982 to handle a divorce. From 1988 to 1992, he did not take any significant action and lied about the case's progress to his client. Jones later apologized to the client and completed the divorce.

On Monday, the State Bar announced that Jones agreed to a public reprimand and a one-year disciplinary probation.
