Mr. Mehrtens was born in Virginia Beach and was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake. He was employed at the Naval Shipyard.
{REST} Survivors include his mother, Barbara J. Mehrtens; his father, Frank J. Mehrtens; one sister, Donna T. Norvell; and two brothers, John T. Mehrtens and Michael T. Mehrtens, all of Virginia Beach; one niece and three nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 Great Neck Road, by Dr. Kenneth A. Barnes. The family will receive friends at Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Woodland Heights Baptist Church Sign Fund, 529 Providence Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23325.
