SUFFOLK BYPASS APPROVED

{LEAD} The Commonwealth Transportation Board on Thursday gave final approval to funding several key road projects, including full funding of the southwest leg of the proposed Suffolk Bypass.

Also receiving funding approval was the Pinner's Point interchange, which will connect the Western Freeway with the Midtown Tunnel in Portsmouth. The project is expected to improve access to the area's ports.

{REST} In granting final approval to the Suffolk Bypass, the board also increased the road's capacity from two lanes to four.

The $20 million project has been on the books for 20 years. It still needs environmental approval.
