Holton, who held the job for three years, said in a statement that he leaves with mixed emotions.
{REST} ``There are many wonderful friends at Corolla Light that I will miss dearly,'' he said. ``However, there are new challenges ahead that I wish to explore. I have made no decisions on the future, but there are some unique opportunities that interest me.''
Holton said: ``Corolla Light is still the finest resort on the Outer Banks. Though a summertime departure may appear untimely, it actually works to everyone's advantage. The staff is busy with the day-to-day operations of the resort as the planning phases are completed for this year. In addition, this will give my replacement time to plan for 1995.
``Making this decision now allows me to pursue some new directions that interest me. First, though, I am going to take a much-needed vacation.''
Association President Lenny Frieden said: ``Dave's tenure has been fruitful for us. The Corolla Light he leaves behind has made great strides toward full resort operations. We have been fortunate to have Dave with us during these past years and wish him continued success. He will be missed.''
Holton, a former educator, consultant and corporate executive, moved to the Outer Banks from Dallas after serving for more than nine years as general manager of Nautilus Equipment, a well known exercise equipment company.
Holton now serves as treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Whalehead Preservation Trust, the group spearheading the restoration of the historic Whalehead Club, and is active on several other community boards.
Lynette Lenard will become acting general manager until a replacement is found. She now serves as president of the lighthouse Villas Association and has participated in Corolla Light Board meetings for two years.
