ALLEN SAYS HE IS NOT A WARNER DETRACTOR

{LEAD} Gov. George F. Allen says he is not among those Republicans clamoring for U.S. Sen. John Warner to be tossed out of the party for supporting independent candidate J. Marshall Coleman.

Allen, who supports Republican nominee Oliver North, said Thursday in Lynchburg that the state GOP is a diverse party with room for differing opinions. ``I don't think we should be throwing anyone out of the party,'' he told the high school seniors attending Boys State. North, Coleman and former Democratic Gov. L. Douglas Wilder are challenging incumbent Charles S. Robb. Warner has refused to support North, saying he's unfit to serve in the Senate because of his role in the Iran-Contra scandal.

{REST} ``I think John Warner is doing a great job for us in the U.S. Senate,'' Allen said. ``I disagreed with him about Mike Farris, who was obviously my candidate for lieutenant governor last year, and I disagree with him about Ollie North.''

Warner refused to endorse Farris last year.

At the state GOP convention earlier this month, the delegates called on Warner to support North, saying future party support would hinge on Warner's conduct in this year's Senate campaign.
