MORE THAN FAIR

{LEAD} In response to the critics who have written saying that this newspaper is politically one-sided since the hiring of John A. barnes as editorial page editor, I feel that is just not so.

For example, London's Sunday Times on May 29 ran the headline ``Dead Hero's Father Tears Into Clinton.'' It seems the president had presented the first post-Vietnam Medals of Honor to the families of two Americans who had died bravely in Somalia. When Mr. Clinton offered his hand to one father, it was declined.

{REST} ``You are not fit to be president of the United States'' said the father. ``The blame for my son's death rests with the White House and with you. You are not fit to command.''

This was also written about in a recent Richard Grenier column in The Washington Times. To my knowledge, none of this was reported in our local papers.

The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star have been more than fair in not publishing news about the downside of the Clinton administration.
