COUNSELING ON ADOPTIONS

{LEAD} Your report ``Giving Up Your Baby'' (Daily Break, June 14) prompted several phone calls to our agency regarding parental-placement adoption services.

Many questions have been asked regarding ``How do I locate a birth mother?''

{REST} ``What is a homestudy?''

``How long do the birth parents have to change their minds after placing the baby?''

Licensed child-placing agencies do have social workers available to answer these questions and offer support to adoptive parents.

Pregnancy counseling is also offered to birth parents. The purpose is to take the mystery out of adoption by providing accurate information and viewing adoption as a caring option for both birth mothers and adoptive parents.

United Methodist Family Services welcomes calls from adoptive parents considering an adoption plan for their child. There is no charge for pregnancy counseling.

It is sad and unnecessary for any birth mother to face the stress of adoption placement without the support of a social worker. Our agency's role is to provide a place where adoptive parents, birth parents and adopted children can all receive the services they need.
