Mrs. Butts was born in Camden City, N.C. She was retired as owner/operator of Midway Beauty Shop after 25 years and was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Deaconess Board, Usher Board, was a former organist and choir member, missionary, Sunday school teacher and a member of Naomi (NU)31 United Order of Tents, Eastern Star, Berkley Civic League and the NAACP. She was the widow of Walter E. Butts.
{REST} Survivors include a daughter, Vivian B. Clements, and son-in-law, William J. Clements, both of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Debra D. Clements and Karen Thorpe, both of Washington, D.C., and Joseph P. Edney and Margaret D. Edney, both of Chesapeake; two great-grandchildren, Shernell Edney and Troy Edney, both of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces/nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in New Hope United Church of Christ, Norfolk, by the Rev. James Anderson. Burial was in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home handled arrangements. The family is receiving guests at the 1000 block of Lunenberg St., Norfolk.
