Mr. Midgett was born in Rodanthe and was a retired U.S. Coast Guard chief and tug boat captain. He was a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church in Rodanthe. He was the son of Carethia Midgett Midgett of Rodanthe and the late David Blivens Midgett Sr. He was the husband of Julie Wilkerson Midgett.
{REST} Besides his wife and mother, Mr. Midgett is survived by one stepson, Shane Brezler of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mildred Midgett of Rodanthe and Maggie Smith of Chesapeake; one brother, Joseph ``Mac'' Midgett of Rodanthe; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fairhaven United Methodist Church, Rodanthe, by the Rev. Berry Taylor. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Rodanthe. The body will be taken to the church today. The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Joseph ``Mac'' Midgett, Rodanthe. Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, is handling arrangements.
