HAMPTON WOMAN INJURED IN ROCK-CLIMBING ACCIDENT

{LEAD} A Hampton woman who fell about 40 feet in a rock-climbing accident in Rocky Mountain National Park was in fair condition Monday at Poudre Valley Memorial Hospital.

Hospital authorities said Amy Sweat, 22, suffered broken bones in her face and a fractured pelvis in the fall Saturday and was undergoing surgery for her injuries Monday.

{REST} During her rescue Saturday, a helicopter hired by park officials crashed on a ridge in the Hallett Peak-Tyndall area while shuttling people and equipment to the scene. No injuries were reported to the pilot or the two passengers.

Sweat was on a late-morning climb with three companions at the base of Tyndall Glacier and Hallett Peak, about 4 miles west of Bear Lake, when she fell.
