MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA PLANNED AT BEACH

{LEAD} THE BEACH BOYS, Billy Ray Cyrus, the Temptations and the Four Tops headline a dance-in-the-sand concert series to be held Labor Day Weekend at Virginia Beach.

Organizers are touting the four-day American Music Festival as ``the largest beach concert series on the East Coast this year.'' Shows will be held Sept. 2-5, with some shows presented on a stage set up on the beach at Fifth Street.

{REST} Tickets go on sale Friday at Ticketmaster outlets. Advance tickets for the main concerts - Cyrus, Beach Boys and a Four Tops/ Temptations bill - will be $40 for all three.

Four-day, three-night double-occupancy hotel packages begin at $125 per person. Admission to the Beach Boys, Tempts/Tops and Cyrus gigs is included. To charge, call 671-8100. For more information, call (800) 822-3224.

A second stage at 24th Street will allow for appearances by a number of other acts, including free shows by the Spinners, Little River Band and Poco. Blood, Sweat and Tears will open the 24th Street venue Sept. 2, followed by a fireworks show.

Dozens of regional bands will play on three more free stages on Atlantic Avenue. The music will be augmented by circus performers, magicians and jugglers.

Car access to parts of the resort strip will be limited. Trolleys will be provided for hotel guests, and park-and-ride buses will be available for other ticket holders. by CNB
