Mr. Monroe was a Baptist and a lifetime member of Aragona Lodge (NU)1198, Loyal Order of Moose. He was also an active supporter of the Truckers Girls Softball Team of Churchland High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
{REST} Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold J. Monroe Jr. and Mae Monroe of Hertford, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Ryan J. Monroe and Mary Lauren Monroe of Hertford.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. Damon E. Wyatt. Visitation will follow until 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Girls Softball League at Churchland High School or to Harvey King Hospital Fund, c/o First Union Bank-Churchland, Portsmouth, Va. 23703.
