He was born in Sunbury, N.C. He was the son of the late Charlie Edward and Cora Anna Beamon.
{REST} Rev. Beamon retired from NADEP (formerly the Naval Air Rework Facility) after 34 years of service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and received the Victory Medal.
He attended both Norfolk State and Shaw Universities in pursuit of studies in divinity. He was affiliated with Noble Street Baptist Church while under the leadership of Rev. Davidson. There he gained the position of a ``son'' of the church.
Rev. Beamon was the pastor of New Family Prayer House in Portsmouth. In the past, he pastored several churches in the Portsmouth, Franklin, Lawrenceville and Petersburg areas.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Beamon; six daughters, Katie B. Eley of Portsmouth, Bettie A. Mann of Newport News, Barbara A. Beamon of Norfolk, Priscilla Upshur of Chesapeake, Elnora Beamon of Portsmouth and Marian O. Beamon of Chesapeake; two sons, William E. Beamon Jr. of Suffolk and Robert O. Beamon of Norfolk; three sisters, Bessie B. Waters of Suffolk, Elsie Cross of Syracuse, N.Y., and Dorothy Palmer of Portsmouth; three brothers, Samuel Beamon of Bronx, N.Y., Andrew Beamon of Suffolk and Willie B. Beamon of Syracuse; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The homegoing will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in Little Mount Zion Baptist Church, Suffolk, by Dr. C.J. Freeman. Burial will be in Little Mount Zion Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Family and friends will assemble at 3904 Galleon Drive in the Ahoy Acres section of Chesapeake for the procession to the church. After the services, friends may join the family at 3812 Fruitwood Court in the Peachtree area of Portsmouth.
