It has been sad to witness the deterioration of what used to be a quality newspaper to the mediocre rag now delivered to our doors.
In less than a year, we've seen one of the more popular, thought-provoking writers (Earl Swift) replaced by another writer with a clear and narrowly focused agenda; this was an apparent effort at political correctness.
We have seen changes in the graphics to the point where The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star more closely resembles USA Today than the tastefully done publication we have enjoyed.
For some unknown reason, the informative, handy-to-keep, pull-out Preview has been eliminated in favor of burying the information in the Daily Break.
The final nail in the coffin was the importation of a right-wing ideologue to quickly create an editorial page devoid of diversity of opinion.
This deadly dull monothought has cheered the political ostriches. Regrettably, as previous letters to the editor have pointed out, the opportunity to consider truly divergent opinions has been sacrificed on the altar of narrow-minded demagoguery.
I used to look forward to reading the entire newspaper; I'm now down to the Green Sheet. Sad, indeed.
