DOROTHY R. SCOVEL

Dorothy Hillsman Robbins Scovel, 71, of the 1500 block of Ashley Drive, a retired school teacher, died June 28, 1994, in her residence.

Mrs. Scovel was born in Lynchburg, Va. She was retired from the state of Virginia after over 30 years. She was the widow of Col. Dwight Jarvis Scovel, USAF (Ret.). As Dorothy Robbins, she was a former Sunday columnist for the state edition of The Virginian-Pilot over a period of 10 years. She was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College and the College of William and Mary. She was a former president of RMWC Alumni Tidewater Chapter; member of Princess Anne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; past president of the Virginia Beach Association of Teachers of English; member of the Virginia Historical Society; and various civic and woman's clubs.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Ann R. Duke of Orange Beach, Ala.; one stepson, Elwood H. Richardson of Hampton; one niece, Suzanne Hillsman of Greensboro, N.C.; and three nephews, Malcolm W. Hillsman Jr. of Wilmington, N.C., Tom Hillsman and Jerry Hillsman, both of Richmond.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, by the Rev. Warren Chapman. Burial will be private at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
