RIVALRY BEGINS AS HURRICANES FACE RICHMOND

Tonight marks the first meeting between the Hampton Roads Hurricanes and the Richmond Kickers.

Hurricanes coach Sonny Travis said he expects a ``bloodbath'' as the teams try to stay in the U.S. Interregional Soccer League playoff hunt. The Hurricanes and Kickers are tied for eighth in the Atlantic Division. The top five teams advance.

``It's a crucial game for both our causes,'' Travis said. ``We expect a bloodbath because this is so important for a playoff berth. We still have a shot at finishing fourth or fifth, but we've got start winning all of our games.''

Tonight also marks the return of forward Ian Spooner, who has been out for nearly three weeks with a leg injury.

Chris Haywood will be returning to Richmond for the first time since he played with the Kickers last season.

The game gets under way at 8 p.m. at the University of Richmond soccer complex. by CNB
