Police have charged a Virginia Beach motorist after he allegedly ran into an officer on bicycle patrol.
Stephen D. Roberts, 22, of the 100 block of 62nd St., was charged with driving under the influence and felony hit and run.
Lou Thurston, a police spokesman, said Roberts was driving the 1987 Chevrolet Blazer that struck officer Rhonda L. Bider, 32, about 10:30 p.m. Thursday near the corner of Pacific Avenue and 20th Street.
Bider was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital, where she was admitted in good condition. She was wearing a helmet.
After hitting Bider, Roberts continued driving and rammed a 1984 Volkswagen that was stopped at a traffic light at Pacific Avenue and 19th Street, police said. The Volkswagen was being driven by Joseph M. Caliri, 29, of the 1000 block of Casanova Drive in Virginia Beach.
A New York resident, Douglas Cardone, 22, detained Roberts until police arrived.
