CHARLES E. ``SOUP'' MCCHESNEY, JR.

Charles Edward ``SOUP'' McChesney, Jr., 72, of 1388 Laskin Rd., died Friday, July 1, 1994, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

He was a native and life-long resident of Virginia Beach and was the beloved husband of Bennie Moyers McChesney. He retired in 1977 after 30 years as a police officer with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

``Soup'' was a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church; a charter member of the Virginia Beach - Princess Anne Rescue Squad, World War II Coast Guard Veteran, a member of Virginia Beach Masonic Lodge (NU)274, A.F. & A.M.; Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies; Khedive Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Virginia Beach Shrine Club; Khedive Hospital Transport Team; a proud member of Khedive Hillbilly Unit; Loyal Order of Moose, Virginia Beach Lodge (NU)1998; Past-president of the Fraternal Order of Police; and the Police Association of Virginia.

In addition to his wife, Bennie, he is survived by one son, Charles ``Andy'' McChesney of the home; one sister, Virginia Lee Parker of Westfield, Pa.; one brother, John B. ``Tipp'' McChesney of Virginia Beach; he was pre-deceased by his loving daughter Mary Virginia McChesney who died June 14, 1994; and by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 6th, at 2 p.m. in the Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, 19th St. & Pacific Ave. by the Rev. Paul C. Bailey and the Rev. Clark L. Mandigo. Masonic Rites will be accorded in the church. Burial will follow with military honors in Princess Anne Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Khedive Hospital Transportation Team, 243 W. Freemason St., Norfolk, Va., 23510. The family will receive friends in the Maestas Funeral Home Baltic Avenue Chapel Tuesday night from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
