RONALD E. TURNER

Ronald Eugene Turner, 47, of Suffolk, a retired nuclear engineer, pilot, firefighter and diver, died July 3, 1994 at home after a long illness.

Mr. Turner was born June 1, 1947 in Pearisburg, Va. and moved to the Tidewater area in 1974. He is an honor graduate of The State University of New York and Thomas Nelson Community College. He graduated as a governor's Virginia Scholar from Old Dominion University where he was a member of Phi Tau Sigma Engineering honor fraternity and an instructional assistant.

His career included service in the U.S. Army Reserves Special Forces Unit, work as an aircraft pilot at Executive Flight Service in Tulsa, Okla. and a helicopter pilot for Petroleum Helicopters International in Morgan City, La. and service as a professional firefighter in Richmond and Newport News, Va. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he was a nuclear engineer. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Pamela D. Turner of Suffolk; his mother, Lois V. Garrett of Pearisburg, Va.; his maternal grandmother, Velma C. Garrett of Big Island, Va.; three nephews and seven nieces.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens in Lexington, Va. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, is handling arrangements.
