STATE HOSPITAL ESCAPEE CAPTURED

A Central State Hospital patient who escaped by climbing a fence was recaptured early Sunday.

Stephen Dalton, 24, of Chester, left the Dinwiddie County hospital about 1:20 p.m. Saturday, state police said.

Sgt. Jim DeFord said troopers found Dalton about 12:20 a.m. Sunday in Colonial Heights after receiving a tip. He said Dalton was returned to the hospital.

Dalton was at the state-run hospital for an evaluation after a domestic dispute last month in Wilmington, N.C., state police said. No charges were pressed in the dispute on the condition that Dalton receive mental health treatment.

State police used tracking dogs and a helicopter Saturday to search for Dalton along U.S. 1 in Colonial Heights after learning that Dalton went to his grandmother's house there to change clothing.

DeFord declined to say where Dalton was recaptured.. by CNB
