The dialogue over the purchase of the flagpole at Ocean Lakes High School is a harsh reminder of my responsibility for oversight of the nation's 34th largest school district. The cost of the flagpole was ridiculous, and I take full responsibility for this error.
The present construction-and-facilities-planning staff has my full confidence. Our record of bringing construction costs in under local budget and under state and national average costs per square foot is well-documented.
The square footage costs for Ocean Lakes High School are also under those averages. The staff has demonstrated diligence in protecting the financial interests of our taxpaying citizens, and I am especially proud of staff members' integrity in providing excellent facilities for all learners.
I invite the citizens of this community to visit Ocean Lakes High School when it opens. Our citizens will be proud of how well this school serves the educational needs of all children.
