Cmdr. Charles J. Whitbeck, USN (Ret.), 70, died July 6, 1994, in Virginia Beach.
Cmdr. Whitbeck was born in Taghkanic, N.Y. He retired as a U.S. Navy commander after 30 years and had been employed with Hanson and Associates Realtors. He was a Naval veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and a member of the Retired Officers Association and Virginia Beach Board of Realtors.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Whitbeck and Joseph Whitbeck, both of Paulsbo, Wash.; five sisters, Dorothy Link of Balhalla, N.Y., Florence Lamont of Levittown, Pa., Lena Gurny of Hudson, N.Y., Alma Taylor of Philmont, N.Y., and Eleanor Gorham of Warner Robbins, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his loving companion for many years, Margaret A. Osgood of Virginia Beach.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by Father James Mennis. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Ft. Meyers Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery with burial in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7320 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75231.
