Some of Newmarket Fair's empty space soon could be filled with community college classes, said Todd Duff, the mall's general manager. Duff said he hopes to work out a deal with a college, which he declined to name, within the next six to 12 months that would turn some of the mall's retail space - about 40 percent of which is vacant - into classrooms. Thomas Nelson Community College President Robert Templin said Wednesday that the college may offer off-campus classes in the mall. Thomas Nelson, which has 8,000 students, has outgrown its Hampton facilities, Templin said. Last week the mall lost the second of its three original anchor tenants when Leggett closed its 125,000-square-foot store. by CNB
