UNEMPLOYMENT IN N.C. SINKS TO 4-YEAR LOW

North Carolina's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level in four years in June, state officials said Friday.

The rate dropped 0.3 percent, from 4 percent to 3.7 percent, according to Ann Duncan, chairwoman of the state Employment Security Commission.

The unemployment rate in June 1993 was 5.3 percent.

The last time the state's unemployment rate was below 3.7 percent was in June 1990, when it was at 3.5 percent.

North Carolina's June unemployment rate was the lowest among the 11 largest states included in the U.S. government's monthly survey.
