Police have charged a man with sexually assaulting his son's 5-year-old friend during a sleepover.
Albert S. Bland Jr. of the 3700 block of Mantle Lane was arrested at 3 p.m. Thursday.
In 1988, Bland and his family were featured in a news article about their homeless lifestyle. Without money and with few resources for food, Bland, his wife, and six children lived in a tent, moving from campsite to campsite.
Six weeks later, the family moved into a home, complete with a donated refrigerator, couch and about $2,000 from concerned citizens in the community.
On Thursday, Bland was charged with aggravated sexual battery and released on $10,000 bail.
The case is being investigated by the police department's family-trauma unit. ILLUSTRATION: Bland
