ANTI-NORTH BIAS SHOWS

Ollie North's detractors are sore losers.

In reporting his nomination, newscaster Catherine Crier of CNN called North a convicted felon although the court of appeals overturned the lower-court findings. Why continue to beat a dead horse? This shows her bias.

Genial radio newsman Glenn Cory had to slip in ``North lied to Congress'' in a recent report. North deceived Congress in order to protect his boss, President Reagan.

Finally, columnist Guy Friddell might do well in the next few months to pull in his horns a bit in his attacks on Ollie North. He praised loser Jim Miller and proceeded to take North apart with many of the tired arguments that delegates discarded at the Richmond convention.

One puzzling put-down by Friddell was his criticism of North for chastising incumbents in Washington. Isn't this what elections are all about?

As for Sen. John W. Warner, R-Va., his threat to bolt the party could be a blessing for Republicans.

Mr. Friddell and other North-bashers are forgetting three important points: (1) Virginia Republicans have spoken; they chose North. (2) Insults to North are insults to Virginia Republicans. (3) The more you bash North, the stronger he grows.
