A 3-year-old girl is in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the face, apparently after playing with a gun she found in a dresser drawer at a friend's home.
Amber Nicole Frost, of the 8200 block of Edwin Drive, Norfolk, was injured shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday by a handgun that discharged, striking her in the cheek, police said.
Investigators determined that the child, her mother and her sister were spending the night at the mother's fiance's residence in the 3900 block of Marina Lake Drive. The children, who had slept in the fiance's room, apparently found the gun and were playing with it when it fired.
The child was taken by ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and later transferred to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
The case is being reviewed by the commonwealth's attorney's office to determine if any charges will be filed.
