TOPAZ WINS ANNUAL MARLIN TOURNAMENT

The private boat Topaz, skippered by Tom Northam of Onancock, won the annual Eastern Shore Marlin Club Tournament over the weekend by releasing a blue marlin and a white marlin.

The blue was estimated at 300 pounds and was caught by E.A. Ames IV of Mount Nebo, Va. Charlie Farlow Jr. of Onancock released the white marlin.

Second went to the Shamrock, with one white marlin released by Steve Seitz of Hanover, Md., and third to the Fin-Atic, with a white marlin released by Ted Nowakowski of Rehoboth Beach, Del.

The heaviest tuna was a 100-pound yellowfin caught by Steve Merkle of Raleigh, fishing on the Judy B. Sam Taylor of Belle Haven had the largest dolphin, a 44-pounder caught from the Now Or Never, while the largest wahoo weighed 40 3/4 pounds and was boated by Andy Dize of Onancock on the Maine Squeeze.

Tournaments:

Dave Chappell of Chesapeake won a largemouth bass tournament staged on the Chickahominy River by the Virginia Bassmasters. His catch weighed 10-4. He also had the lunker at 3-6. Second went to Ivan Morris of Virginia Beach at 9-12 and third to Harold Deplh of Chesapeake at 9-3.

The team of Pete Kelley and Tommy Withrow of Virginia Beach won a team bass tournament out of Bob's Fishing Hole on the Northwest River with a combined catch weighing 10-6. Second went to Randy England and Robert Walton of Chesapeake at 9-8. England had the lunker at 4-10. by CNB
