Lula Elizabeth Skenes, 80, of the 900 block of Stewart St., a retired PBX operator, died July 9, 1994, in Chesapeake General Hospital.
Mrs. Skenes was born in Vance County, N.C. She had retired from the Golden Triangle Hotel. She was the widow of Willie Connell Skenes and was a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church. She was a member of Ruth Bible Class and a member of the Helpful Club of the Church. She was also a member of the South Norfolk Civic League. She was predeceased by a son, Charles S. Skenes.
Survivors include two daughters, Beatrice Ann Parrish of Gasburg, Va., and Rebecca S. Newhart of Chesapeake; two sons, Willie C. Skenes Jr. and James ``Skeno'' Skenes, both of Chesapeake; a sister, Willie G. Gupton of Henderson, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Penny Wilson and the Rev. Henry Napier. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.
