Elder James Matthew Cherry, of the 3500 block of Seay Ave., died July 8, 1994, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Cherry was born in Windsor, N.C. He had retired from the Naval Supply Center after 37 years. He was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ Holy Disciples in Norfolk for 40 years. He was pastor of the church for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Chestener B. Cherry of Norfolk; a daughter, Vivian Cherry-Rose of Newport News; two sons, Larry James Cherry of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Lawrence Cyril Cherry of Landover, Md.; a sister, Sally Biggs of Norfolk; seven grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jade Cherry of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and a son-in-law, Minister Edward Rose of Newport; and a host of family and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Smyrna Church of Christ Holy Disciples by Elder Thomas Woodhouse. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. There will be a wake service today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Smyrna Church of Christ Holy Disciples, 741 Marshall Ave., Norfolk. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
