James Peter McCoy Jr., 72, of the 2700 block of Mark St., died July 10, 1994, in Chesapeake.
Mr. McCoy was born in Portsmouth. He had retired from the Civil Service as a shop planning supervisor after 28 years. He was the widower of Marjorie Barbara McCoy and was a veteran of World War II having served under General George Patton in the Third Army, 94th Division. He was also a recipient of the Bronze Star Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 795, Chesapeake. He was the son of the late James Peter McCoy and Enid Mae Sawyer McCoy. He was predeceased by three brothers, Willis McCoy, Donald McCoy and James Osborne.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Kay Compton of Chesapeake; three sons, James Peter McCoy III and John Steven McCoy, both of Virginia Beach, and Richard Bruce McCoy of Chesapeake; five sisters, Marjorie Salmon of North Carolina, Thelma Lee of Virginia Beach and Dorothy Cooksey, Louise Bowden and Barbara Guill, all of Chesapeake; five brothers, Raymond McCoy of Williamsburg, James Walter McCoy and Charles McCoy, both of Virginia Beach and William McCoy of Lynchburg and Herman McCoy of Moyock, N.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Alton Salmon. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
