Looking for a beach event that includes a sit down dinner, golf tournament, silent auction and calypso band? Then come to Lobster Fest '94, Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m., at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base where lobster and steak will be served - Scout's honor.
This second annual event is sponsored by the Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Funds raised will be used to further the recruitment of Scouts, provide opportunities for Scouts to attend camp and cover other Scouting operations.
Currently the Tidewater area, spanning Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk and seven counties in North Carolina, has more than 400 Boy Scout troops, Cub Scout packs and Explorer posts - in all, more than 20,000 young people. Each year the organization recruits between 4,000 and 5,000 new youth. According to Rick Feffenbecker, field director for the South Hampton Roads area, ``There's not a neighborhood where we don't have Scouting.''
Last year's event attracted 150 people and raised more than $10,000. Other highlights of this Saturday evening's bash will be a Navy hovercraft for viewing, casino area, raw bar and dancing.
``This is the public's opportunity, whether they be alumni or parents of Scouts, to support the Boy Scouts in a fun, festive atmosphere,'' said Feffenbecker. ``We want as many people as possible.''
Tickets are $75 per individual, or $100 per couple. Tables can be purchased. For more information, call Rick Feffenbecker at 497-2688. by CNB
