PICK OF THE WEEK

It's back to the Stone Age, a la ``The Flintstones,'' ``Jurassic Park'' and, of course, Virginia Beach.

This Saturday, the Virginia Beach Center for the Arts is presenting ``Yabadabadoo!,'' the fifth dinner party in its annual fund-raising series, ``A Taste for Art.''

The site for this gala is the home of Helen Snow, the center's president (story, page 3). However, if the title is any hint, guests can be sure this won't be just any backyard barbecue. Expect a bronto-burger or two on the grill, hosts dressed in their after-five leopard skins and possibly a dinosaur or two.

``Well, the hosts are dressing up, fake leopard skin and furs and I know there's been a big to-do about getting water buffalo helmets for members of Fred Flintstone's lodge,'' mused co-host Sharon Dilustro. ``And I probably can't tell you this, but in addition to the setting being lovely and torch lit, there will probably be a tar pit and pterodactyl or two.''

Dilustro and 23 other individual hosts are presenting the party. Also, volunteering their professional efforts are Gene Shull of Floral Events and Sydney Meers of The Dumbwaiter. Shull has threatened his decor may be more carnivorous than floral, and the downtown Norfolk restaurateur boasts he has discovered fire. The menu includes dino chips with hot pineapple salsa to gazpacho to brontosaurus smoked beef tenderloin. Beer and wine will be available along with something called cave grog. The band Waterworks will be on hand to keep things rocking in a progressive way.

Tickets are still available; the party accommodates 100. The cost is $45 per person, and reservations may be made by calling the Arts Center at 425-0000.

Dilustro said, ``Our information says to drag your Homo sapien by the hair, but whether you come dressed cave man or not, I know we're really going to have a good time.''
