STOP `DICTATORIAL PROCESS'

Although I am now a legal resident of Florida, I must admit that once a Virginian, always a Virginian - that cannot be taken away from my heart nor my mind. I served my community (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne County), my state and my country with loyalty and devotion. This I submit only as a prologue to a token overview of this writer.

My statement shall be brief and to the point: Politics are not what they should be and definitely not what they used to be! The founding fathers (and mothers) of this great nation, many of whom were born and lived within the boundaries of my beloved Virginia, would be appalled at the attempts of the so-called religious right to undermine this political process which we so cherish. The original perception of a government of the people - all the people - is rapidly eroding. The concept of a distinct separation of church and state is now in grave jeopardy throughout this nation.

My focus is the recent Republican nomination of Oliver North as a candidate for Senate for the commonwealth of Virginia. In my opinion, Mr. North's body and soul is already owned by the likes of the Pat Robertsons, Jerry Falwells and Jim Bakers of this nation; religious zealots all, who under the guise of Christianity are imposing their personal philosophy of moral conduct and life values.

When will the majority of clear- thinking American voters understanding the danger of this radical movement toward an unthinkable totalitarian regime of dictatorial process in our everyday living experience? It will not affect my life, but it frightens the very depth of my aspirations and hopes for my grandson and the young men and women who will follow. I hope that some of our leadership will stop this movement before it is too late.
