A teenager pleaded guilty Wednesday to the January murder of a man in Ocean View.
Terrance T. Cowell, 17, of the 9600 block of 24th Bay St. in East Ocean View, was found guilty of second-degree murder and use of a firearm under a plea agreement. Circuit Judge Alfred Whitehurst sentenced Cowell to 13 years in prison.
Cowell was charged, along with Keith Moton, another teenager, in the Jan. 23 slaying of Mark W. Hatch, 40, of the 600 block of Edwin Drive in Virginia Beach.
Hatch was shot during a drug deal, court officials have said. His body was found soon after the shooting in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in the 9600 block of Shore Drive.
Cowell was 16 at the time of the slaying and Moton was 15. Moton's trial is scheduled for later this year.
