MISREPORTING VIOLATES BLUEFIN TUNA LIMITS

The U.S. Department of Commerce reported Wednesday that Atlantic bluefin tuna have been transferred between vessels or brought in and attributed to vessels that never left the docks in an effort to circumvent the daily one-fish limit.

This practice is illegal. Violations may result in fines and possible permit revocation.

Violating existing regulations jeopardizes the management goals and penalizes fishermen who abide by the rules. The National Marine Fisheries Service asks that all Atlantic bluefin tuna fishermen bring in only one fish per day.
