WOMAN APPARENTLY SLAIN

A 24-year-old woman found dead Sunday in her bed and first believed to have died of natural causes now appears to have been murdered, police said.

A relative found Laura Mae Joyner dead in her Bute Street home Sunday after she failed to show up for work at a nursing home.

There were no marks or injuries on her body, and police first suspected she had died in her sleep.

But after an autopsy by the state medical examiner, police say Joyner was murdered. They will not release the cause of death, saying that could affect their investigation. There were no suspects Wednesday, police said.
