VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY GRAD SLAIN

The stabbing death of a Virginia State University graduate in her Petersburg apartment has upset parents and faculty at the small campus.

Hope Denise Hall, 22, is the third Virginia State student or graduate to be murdered since February 1993. Hall, who was an intern at WWBT-TV in Richmond, was found Monday afternoon in the bedroom of her Halcun Manor apartment.

Police said she had been stabbed repeatedly.

Last year, two Virginia State seniors were shot to death in their off-campus apartment.

Judith O. Farmer, who was Hall's academic adviser, said the murder of another student has a great impact on a campus the size of Virginia State.

``It hurts tremendously,'' Farmer said. ``We are a small campus, so there's a sense of family here.''

Hall and her 3-year-old son had lived in the apartment complex about eight months. Police said the boy apparently had been staying with his father in Northern Virginia.
