``The friends of Jim Bowling benefit'' will be held Sunday, from noon until 10 p.m., at Princess Anne Produce, 2400 London Bridge Road.
The benefit, to help Bowling who has cancer, will feature continuous live entertainment, hay rides, a silent auction, pony rides and a petting farm. Organizers are expecting 500 guests.
Local acoustic artists such as Lewis McGehee, Norman Harrell, Chuck Bird, Sammy Harrell and Chuck Coyote Larsen will play throughout the day, while a tractor pulled hay ride will take children and adults around the 45 acres.
``We're doing lots of kids' things,'' said Cathy Ruffin, coordinator of the benefit. ``Everybody loves those hay rides.''
The $15 ticket price includes entertainment, as well as food, which will include barbecue and hot dogs. Children under 10 will be admitted free. Beer will be served at an additional cost.
``It's a good family kind of day out on a farm,'' Ruffin said. ``The children will be real happy out there.''
Bowling, a local musician, was diagnosed with lymphoma four years ago. He played guitar with the rock 'n' roll group Snuff in the '70s and early '80s, and most recently plays with the local band, Blvd. 58.
He has no insurance and all of the funds raised will go toward his medical expenses.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at San Antonio Sam's Cafe and Saloon and Hunt Club Kennel, or at the farm the day of the benefit. For more information, call 427-9520. ILLUSTRATION: Jim Bowling, a local musician, was diagnosed with lymphoma four
