A man upset about marital problems walked onto a busy overpass at East Little Creek Road and Tidewater Drive, straddled a railing and threatened to jump Thursday evening.
Police negotiators eventually talked the man into giving up his threat. He finally walked, unassisted, to a waiting police car and got in. He was taken to an area psychiatric facility for observation and was not charged.
The incident began at 5:55 p.m. and ended at 8:10 p.m. Police rerouted all lanes of traffic for about two hours, making for a slow drive for many motorists.
About 1,000 spectators watched from various vantage points at nearby shopping centers as the man stood at the center of the bridge. Two police negotiators talked to him. by CNB
